Mark D.
Morgal Plumbing Industries. They were fast and efficient. I called and left a message. I texted their number like they told me to do on their voicemail. Asked them if and when could they come out and fix it. I sent them pictures of the old and five minutes later she gave me a quote and told me that they can be here within an hour and a half. I told them no problem. Thank you very much. They came and fixed it and were done within an hour and a half. Highly recommend this company.

Great company — very organized and well-prepared for the job. I requested a service line to be installed, and they promptly scheduled a date. Permits were secured ahead of time, and the crew arrived with all the necessary tools and materials. They performed their work with great care and precision, completed inspections without delay, and cleaned up the site so well that it looked just like it did before they arrived. I will definitely be hiring them for all my future projects. Thank you, Jay, Casey, and the entire team!
Darrin S.
Very professional from start to finish. They came when scheduled and got the work done correctly and efficiently. Highly recommended.

Huge thank you to Morgal Plumbing for coming to our rescue on short notice. Found some water in our basement and realized we had a main sewer line issue to our septic. They came out first thing in the morning to diagnose the problem, then returned in the afternoon to fix it. Great service at a very reasonable price. Super grateful to have good companies around to help when needed.

Morgal has been great to work with for our cast iron replacements. We had two different replacements and both times they were very friendly, quick, and kept everything clean considering how much work they were doing. There aren’t a lot of plumbers that will take on cast iron, and they do it well.
Tammy L.
I had my hot water heater flushed and repaired. Along with installing a water softener for the house. They were a great company to work with. If you're looking for a plumber, Morgal Plumbing is your company!
Maria D.
Morgal plumbing is an exceptionally professional business and they were a pleasure to work with. I had some last minute schedule delays for a project and they were able to flex their appointments to make sure that my family’s plumbing needs were met even in the midst of a large basement repair. 10/10 would recommend.
Saam T.
Fantastic to work with! Very responsive and great quality work. Hired them for sewer cap off/disconnect work. Highly recommended!
Adam C.
Professional, friendly, and highly skilled! Very quick response, came out to look at a burst pipe in the crawlspace under the house, equipped with all the proper tools and gear. Recommended multiple options, great value for the price! Above and beyond solution and showed off the good work. Made sure everything was working well before leaving. I highly recommend Morgal as a trustworthy, high value, and friendly experience!

Morgal Plumbing found us after posting a desperate request on a public Facebook page. This company was so helpful and got to work immediately once we agreed to use their company. I would highly recommend this company. Additionally, this is a small business family owned company, which I will always support. Thank you Morgal Plumbing for the quick response and excellent job!

Signs You May Need Main Water Line Replacement

Watch for these indicators that your main water line requires professional evaluation:

  • Sudden drop in water pressure throughout the entire property
  • Discolored or rusty water from multiple fixtures
  • Soggy areas, sinkholes, or unusually lush grass patches in the yard
  • Unexplained increases in water bills without changed usage
  • Recurring leaks along the water line path
  • Frequent repairs needed on the same section of pipe
  • Visible corrosion or deterioration on exposed pipe sections
  • Water meter shows continuous flow when all fixtures are off

What Causes Main Water Line Failure

Age and Corrosion

Water lines installed before 1970 often used galvanized steel that corrodes from the inside. Decades of mineral buildup and rust eventually restrict flow or cause complete failure.

Tree Root Intrusion

Roots seek water sources and penetrate joints or cracks in water lines. Root growth expands cracks and can collapse pipes over time.

Shifting Soil

Northern Virginia clay soil expands and contracts with moisture changes. Ground movement stresses rigid pipes and causes joint separation or cracking.

Poor Original Installation

Improper depth, inadequate bedding material, or wrong pipe material for soil conditions leads to premature failure. Repairs cannot correct fundamental installation problems.

Freezing Damage

Lines installed above frost depth or without proper insulation crack when water freezes and expands inside the pipe.

Our Main Water Line Replacement Options

Trenchless Pipe Bursting

We pull a new pipe through the existing line while breaking apart the old pipe. This method minimizes excavation when soil conditions and existing pipe allow this approach.

Traditional Trench Replacement

Full excavation provides access for complete line replacement. This method works in all conditions and allows inspection of soil, depth, and proper bedding.

Copper Pipe

Durable and long-lasting with proven performance in Northern Virginia conditions. Copper resists corrosion and handles pressure well but costs more than plastic options.

HDPE Pipe

High-density polyethylene provides exceptional longevity and resistance to chemicals and corrosion. HDPE works well for trenchless installations.

What to Expect During Replacement

Timeline

Most residential water line replacements complete in one to two business days. Timeline depends on line length, depth, soil conditions, and whether we encounter rock or other obstacles.

Property Access

We need clear access from the street connection to your home. Equipment includes an excavator, truck for hauling materials and soil, and utility locating equipment.

Water Service Interruption

Your water remains off during the connection work at both ends of the new line. Total shutdown time typically ranges from four to eight hours. We coordinate timing to minimize disruption.

Landscape Impact

Excavation creates a trench from the street to your home. We protect lawns with ground mats where possible and mark the path before digging. Driveways or sidewalks in the line path require cutting and restoration.

Restoration

After installation and testing, we backfill the trench with proper compaction. We restore grass areas with topsoil and seed or sod based on season and your preference. Hardscape restoration includes concrete replacement and matching to existing surfaces.

Cost Factors for Main Water Line Replacement

Replacement cost varies based on specific project conditions. Line length from the street connection to your home directly affects total price along with any underground existing utilities that need to be exposed and protected.

Material choice impacts cost with copper at the premium end and HDPE at moderate pricing. Trenchless methods cost more upfront but reduce landscape restoration expenses.

Access challenges including rock, deep utilities, or obstacles like mature trees, fencing, landscaping, or retaining walls, etc. increase labor and equipment requirements. Driveway or sidewalk removal and restoration add to total project cost.

Permit fees, inspection requirements, and local municipality connection fees apply in most areas. We handle all permit applications and coordinate required inspections.

Main Water Line Replacement FAQs

How long does a new water line last?

Properly installed copper lines last 50 plus years. HDPE lines carry 50 year manufacturer warranties and are expected to last as long or longer than copper based on current performance data.

We excavate only the path from the street connection to your home. Most trenches measure 18 to 24 inches wide. We use the most direct route that avoids obstacles when possible.

Water service remains available except during connection work at both ends of the new line. We coordinate shutdown timing and provide advance notice so you can plan accordingly.

Most policies do not cover line replacement due to age or deterioration. Some policies cover sudden failures from specific causes. Review your policy or contact your insurance provider to verify coverage.

You do not need to be present throughout the work. We need access at the beginning for line location confirmation and at the end for final walkthrough and system testing.
